The deep dark woods of 99 Nights in the Forest can be a lonely place, but now you can tame animals to fight bravely by your side with your trusty Flute , which will help you uncover the mysteries of the deadly monsters who rule the night time.

Many of these once dangerous creatures can quickly become your greatest allies thanks to the addition of the Taming Flute , but you have to go through quite a complicated taming process to make friends first. Here’s everything you need to know about taming animals in 99 Nights in the Forest , as well as how to upgrade your Taming Flute and dismiss pets once you’ve reached the maximum!

How to tame an animal in 99 Nights in the Forest

To tame an animal in 99 Nights in the Forest, you need to go through the following steps:

  1. Either grab a Taming Flute from the sack near your starting campfire , or trade for one with the Pelt Trader
  2. Next, get close to an animal with the Flute equipped and tap or click to use it on them
  3. Click or tap repeatedly to keep the red line inside the bar and you will make friends with the animal
  4. After that, they will ask you for a food item which you need to collect for them
  5. Delivering the food item will change the red face above the animal to green
  6. If you’ve filled all of the faces , the animal will be tamed and follow you around
  7. If there are still red faces above the animal, you will need to repeat the process , first using the Taming Flute on them before feeding them another food item

Taming animals isn’t necessarily that difficult, but can take a long time and can be quite resource intensive.

It’s often easier to make sure you have the correct amount of food items already in your sack before you approach the animal you want to tame.

What to do if you have the maximum number of pets

In 99 Nights in the Forest, you can only have 2 pets at any one time .

To dismiss pets so you can tame more animals, either to grind out Taming Flute XP or so you can get a stronger one, it’s actually a very simple process.

Just click or tap on the pet you want to dismiss and it will bring up a command menu. From here you can tell them to sit and wait for you - which is useful if you want to tame another creature without your current pet attacking them - but the more interesting option is “release”.

If you press “release” twice, then you will dismiss that pet, leaving you free to tame and collect more.

How to upgrade the Taming Flute

Once you’ve tamed a few different animals, you will get a message indicating that your Taming Flute is ready to upgrade, just like the Fishing Rods you can also find near your campfire.

However, unlike the Fishing Rod, you don’t return to where you found the Taming Flute to upgrade it. Instead you need to find the workshop , a large building with a metal door which is accessible after you’ve upgraded your campfire a couple of times.

Inside the workshop, which appears as two crossed tools on the map, and will be highlighted by an exclamation mark during the event window, you find workbenches for upgrading both your Taming Flute and Fishing Rod.

With a better, upgraded Taming Flute, you can take on the task of befriending more dangerous animals.
