UPDATE: We’ve added a whole new S+ tier to our list of the best Classes in 99 Nights in the Forest, as well as discussion of the amazing new Fire Bandit and Zookeeper classes.

The best classes in 99 Nights in the Forest are powerful pre-set builds which not only give your character a starting boost as they set out to save the missing kids and learn the secrets of the mysterious, monstrous Deer, but strong passive buffs as well.

To help you make the decision of which character to save up Diamonds for, we’ve arranged all of the Classes in 99 Nights in the Forest into a tier list, ranging from best to worst.

More and more powerful Classes are being added to the game with every update, so it pays off to invest wisely in a strong Class which will still be relevant as new content raises both the power level of player-characters and the difficulty of in-game encounters.

How to unlock Classes in 99 Nights in the Forest

Classes in 99 Nights are unlocked with Diamonds . These are a premium currency which can be bought with Robux, or by grinding specific in-game challenges. You can get Diamonds to unlock Classes without spending real money by:

  • Inputting 99 Nights in the Forest codes in the shop menu
  • Completing Badges and redeeming them from the experience’s lobby
  • Surviving 50 and 99 nights in a single run
  • Routing the Cultist Stronghold on the outskirts of the forest
  • Finding them inside randomly spawning chests

99 Nights in the Forest Class Tier List

In our 99 Nights in the Forest Tier List, the S+ Tier Classes are the best of the best. Since the game’s launch, there have been numerous updates that have brought extremely strong Classes into the mix. It’s now gotten to the point where we need separate out this top layer into a league of its own.

Next, S Tier Classes are always great and give either a big advantage in resource gathering (like the Lumberjack’s wood generation, Blacksmith’s extra Scrap and Alien’s movement buff) or combine with items to become a powerhouse (like the Brawler with the Morning Star or Cyborg with the Raygun).

A Tier Classes are still good, but either have a lower ceiling to their power level (like the Scavenger), are more situational in their usefulness (like the Chef), or provide a powerful affect that’s still not 100% necessary (like the Fisherman).

B Tier Classes are fine and not bad by any means, but their items can either be found easily yourself with a little exploration (like the Ranger’s weapons) or only offer a very minor upgrade (like the Hunter).

C Tier Classes are also not that bad, but probably aren’t worth your Diamonds. Their effects are either outclassed by other Classes so you should save up for a better one (like the Camper and Cook), or are basically cosmetic so only really make sense as part of a larger team (like the Decorator’s focus on furniture).

Class Tier:Class Name:
S+ (Amazing)Fire Bandit, Alien, Big Game Hunter, Cyborg, Poison Master, Assassin
S (Great)Brawler, Zookeeper, Pyromaniac
A (Good)Lumberjack, Blacksmith, Scavenger, Fisherman, Chef, Base Defender, Farmer
B (Fine)Ranger, Hunter, Berserker, Gambler, Support, Medic,
C (Not worth it)Camper, Decorator, Cook

What makes the best Classes in 99 Nights in the Forest good?

When Diamonds are such a rare resource, you want to spend them wisely on the best Classes possible. So it’s a good thing then that most of the items and passives you can collect from different Classes are easily found in-game, meaning you don’t really need to unlock them all.

In the early game, the Scavenger is an excellent class . Despite not spawning with an additional item, the +2 sack space is invaluable when building up your fire at the beginning of the run and will continue to be useful for the entirety of your playthrough, unlike other Classes. This is the same with the chest opening speed and bonus scrap which will still be useful in the late game.

If you’re playing with a team of friends, the Medic is also a very worthy addition to any squad . It can take a long time to rebuild the Cultist Anvil and craft Bandages, so starting with some to cover up early game mistakes can be helpful. They’re also very useful for high level players who’re looking to farm the Cultist Stronghold to collect Diamonds.

Next, for mid-level and solo players, the Lumberjack is great for farming resources , climbing the crafting tree quickly and generally making the early game go much faster at the start of a run with their default Good Axe.

The Blacksmith is the Scrap equivalent of the Lumberjack and is equally great - they’re particularly good paired together! However, since it’s not actually that difficult to stockpile resources, there are more impactful classes out there.

The Brawler is very good for high-level players running the Cultist Stronghold because of its high health pool and synergy with the Morning Star.

And while the Brawler is arguably more useful in a 1-on-1 fight as the days roll on into the end-game - plus it’s 5 times cheaper - the Assassin’s movement buff and built-in weapons make them amazing for both exploration and combat , as well as making a quick start in new runs.

Finally, as with the powercreep in many Roblox Experiences, the Alien and Cyborg Classes added with the Alien Mothership update are extremely strong . This is because Alien tech is pretty OP and these new Classes synergize perfectly with those items.

The Alien is more based around exploration , and at max level moves around incredibly quickly while also making use of the brilliant Raygun.

On the other hand, the Cyborg is more combat focussed, and probably costs a whopping 600 Diamonds because of its max-level ability which restores weapon energy with enemy kills. This makes the Cyborg the ultimate combat machine in 99 Nights , able to self-sufficiently and constantly deal a massage amount of damage as you farm Strongholds.

However, the Cyborg does require more set-up than the Alien. The Laser Canon is not a good weapon, given its low DPS due to a slow firing rate and lacklustre damage. To get the best out of the Cyborg, then need a Raygun.

Continuing the power-creep, the Pyromaniac was one the strongest combat class in 99 Nights on release, but it has now been absolutely outclassed for much cheaper by the Fire Bandit . Not only does it require basically no set up and has infinite ammo, but provies its own cooking engine so you don’t have to worry about food. It’s Wildfire also makes it one of the best classes for clearing strongholds, but the limited range does make it difficult to deal with the dreaded Crossbow cultists.

Two new classes were added together after the Snow Biome update: the Berserker and Base Defender. On the face of it, the Berserker is interesting, but flawed . Their ability to deal more damage as their health gets lower might be OP in the right hands, but when Crossbow Cultists can snipe you so easily, it just seems like an unmanagable risk.

On the flip side of that though, the Base Defender looks underrated . When used correctly, Bear Traps are a great tool which can make surviving the whole 99 nights a lot easier, and if you stack your defenses wisely you can repel Cultist attacks easily and save your ammo for Strongholds.

The Zookeeper added with the Taming Flute update is a lot of fun , allowing you to make full use of the new mechanic more easily. Using animal companions is also very strong in combat in general, so we’ve also moved the Farmer up to A Tier , since you now need a lot of corn and pumpkins - which they have easier access to - to tame the strongest creatures.
