Update: We’ve added all of the new Level 5 crafting recipes introduced in the Crafting Update to our table.

Crafting is at the core of any good survival game and 99 Nights in the Forest is no exception.

As you build up your camp fire to ward off the horrific Deer and keep safe from the droves of cultists who worship it, you can craft a number of useful items which help you in your mission to save the missing children (or just survive long enough to make it out alive).

Most regular crafting items in 99 Nights are built using just two materials: Wood and Scrap.

Wood is collected by chopping down trees or by scavenging log piles, while scrap is gathered by finding broken metal objects throughout the landscape.

As you progress, you can also start to use Cultist Gems. These pendants are worn around the necks of Cultists and given as a reward for repelling them from your camp fire or clearing a Cultist Stronghold.

Then, as you reach the end-game, the highest level crafting recipes require the “Gem of the Forest”. This item is made up of 4 fragments which can be found as a rare drop throughout the forest, but are a guaranteed reward from the clearing the Cultist Stronghold.

Finally, in a specific location known as the Anvil Building or Anvil Base, you can also craft unique items using animal pelts.

What are the best items to craft in 99 Nights in the Forest?

The first thing you make in 99 Nights in the Forest should pretty much always be the Map . Not only does it let you see where your teammates are at all times, but it makes finding key locations like the missing children and cultist strongholds much, much easier.

While hunger isn’t too big of a deal in 99 Nights in the Forest, it can still get annoying, particularly in the mid-game, to have to break away from more exciting things to hunt rabbits or wolves for a whole day. That’s where the Crock Pot comes in, because it lets you combine food items to make better meals which you can stockpile and eat less frequently than regular morsels.

As your camp expands and you begin to fight off more-and-more cultists with every attack, it’s a good idea to add a Torch or two to your camp. This gives you a wider area to build around your main campfire and expands the nighttime safe zone. It also lets you fight off cultists in the bright light without having to worry about the Deer.

Next, the biggest hurdle to get over to transition from the mid to late-game is upgrading your camp fire to max level. To do this you need quite a lot more fuel than the other levels, so it’s a good idea to supplement this with a crafted machine. The Biofuel Processor is much cheaper and turns logs that only boost your fire by 1 point into biofuel which boosts it by 5.

Alternatively, you can make the Oil Drill which creates its own drums of Oil which give big boosts to your camp fire. This is the machine to craft if you want to devote your attention to exploring or combat rather than tending to your fire.

Then, as you reach the real late-game and start to farm the Cultist Stronghold to collect as many Diamonds as possible , the Ammo Crate becomes a vital addition to your camp. This lets you trade scrap for gun ammo, either for the revolver, rifle or mighty shotgun.

When combat becomes the focus of the game rather than exploration, you need to keep your weapons stocked and there’s no more reliable way to do that than the Ammo Crate.
