Throughout your adventure in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers , you’ll likely run into various glowing blue interactable flames. These blue flames – coined Faces of the Past – will tell you to do something, be it to ‘look’ or ‘investigate’ to be reunited with faces of the past, but what does this mean?

At these glowing blue locations, the clues provided are actually telling you to perform a specific emote or gesture. If you’re having some trouble figuring out exactly which emote to use and when, here are all Faces of the Past emotes and solutions in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers , and what rewards you can obtain.

There are multiple Faces of the Past clues to decipher and emote in front of in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers. In the below guide, we’ve listed all of the clues we have found so far, and their associated emotes.

Faces of the Past #1: Pay your respects

• Emote Required: Worship
• Reward: Divine Gift

The first Faces of the Past clue to interact with is found just outside of Shu Sanctum’s front entrance. It’s glowing blue to the right of the stairs, and the clue reads ‘pay your respects before the God of Shu’s statue to reunite with faces of the past.’ The emote you want to use here is Worship .

Faces of the Past #2: Look to the horizon

• Emote Required: Gaze
• Reward: Candied Haws

The next Faces of the Past clue is also found a short walk from Shu Sanctum. To reach it, go to Shu Sanctum’s second level and walk across the tree shortcut. From here, go up the hill on your right until you’re at the very top. The glowing blue statue you need to emote in front of is here.

The glowing blue statue, when interacted with, presents you with the following clue: ‘look to the horizon to be reunited with faces of the past’. The emote you then need to use here is Gaze .

Faces of the Past #3: Master Tai Chi

• Emote Required: Tai Chi
• Reward: Red Mercury Essence

After having defeated Commander Honglan in Tang Emperor Palace, you’ll find yourself back at the Reverent Temple, with the Reverent Temple Key in your pocket. When you’re ready, enter the courtyard and use the key on the western door and proceed ahead, and to your right, to enter a cave.

Inside the cave, go down the first ladder you come to. Cross the stone bridge and on your right, you’ll find a glowing blue pot which reads: ‘Master Tai Chi to grasp the Primordial Deity’s wisdom.’ The emote you want to use here is Tai Chi .

Faces of the Past #4: Investigate the loose mound

• Emote Required: Examine
• Reward: Shu Silk Scarf

The fourth Faces of the Past clue is found in the region of Cloudspire, specifically in the Hillswatch area. If you go up the hill from the Hillswatch Shrine and up the ladder, you’ll come to two mounds of dirt and the glowing blue clue, which reads ‘The Tomb of the Apothecary; it seems you can investigate the loose mound of dirt.’

The emote you should use here is Examine .

Faces of the Past #5: Pay your respects, again

• Emote Required: Worship
• Reward: Soulgrass

As you advance further into Cloudspire and reunite with merchant Wu Gang, at the Snowy Passage Shrine, your next Faces of the Past clue is just a short walk away. From the Shrine, go outside and keep right, being careful of the landmines in the ground (and eat some Spicy Soup to protect you from the cold climate here).

You’ll come to a small wooden bridge on your right. Cross it, and the glowing blue clue is on a ledge in front of you. It reads ‘pay your respects at the tomb to reunite with faces of the past.’ The emote you should use here is Worship .

Faces of the Past #6: Dance with grace

• Emote Required: Water Dance
• Reward: Red Mercury Essence

The next Faces of the Past clue is found by Cloudspire Outskirts, and is just beside the third and final spire in this area. This particular spire is a huge tower adorned with red flags and is the one closest to Liu Cheng’en’s boss arena, and if you’ve beaten Al Nengqi already, a fire will be blazing at the top of it.

This Faces of the Past clue reads ‘dance with grace to glimpse the Primordial Deity’s wisdom,’ and the emote you should use is Water Dance . Make sure to stand away from the cliff-edge when you use this!

It’s also worth noting that there are some spoilers for late-game locations and bosses ahead .

Faces of the Past #7: Examine the marks

• Emote Required: Examine
• Reward: Dragon Fish Pendant

The next Faces of the Past riddle is found in Bride’s Boudoir, just before you enter the next boss arena – where you will face the Perfect Bride, Fang Lin. From the Bride’s Boudoir Shrine, advance ahead and you’ll come to an area with some cells, one of which contains Commander Honglan. Go down the stairs from Honglan, and the Faces of the Past Riddle is in a cell to your left at the bottom.

It reads ‘examine the marks here to reunite with faces of the past’ and the emote you should use here is Examine .

Faces of the Past #8: Pay your respects

• Emote Required: Worship
• Reward: Zhenwu Temple Elixir

The next Faces of the Past riddle is found in the region of Mount Zhenwu, in the room behind the Zhenwu Antechamber Shrine, which can only be opened from the opposite side. This place is a huge maze, but we’re going to try our best to direct you to the room from the Zhenwu Antechamber Shrine.

Go down the stairs from the Shrine and head left into a ruined temple building. Inside, go upstairs and left, onto the rooftop. On your immediate left – while on the rooftop – there’s a ladder to climb.

Go left along the next rooftop and across the wooden bridge into a second ruined temple building. Go down the stairs here, and at the bottom, turn around and go through the building. Once you reach the rooftops again, there’ll be a ladder you can kick down for later, and another ladder to climb up. Climb up it.

Head left around the next rooftop, and go across the wooden bridge you come to. In the next open area, you want to head to the back left corner, and go left into a red temple building. Exit on the opposite side of the building, and there’ll be another ladder to climb on your right.

Atop the ladder, enter the temple building and go down the stairs. Exit the temple by going right, then go left to come to yet another wooden bridge. Cross the bridge and go right, staying inside the temple. Head upstairs next.

Atop the stairs, exit onto the rooftop behind you, and there’ll be a small wooden ramp to cross. Cross it and head right. You’ll come to another small ramp leading inside another temple building. Go inside and up the stairs.

Once up the stairs, go straight ahead through the building. You will find a ladder to climb on the balcony. Go left along the next rooftop and cross another wooden bridge. Interact with the glowing purple lever in the following building. This lowers a bridge you can then cross to access the middle of the room.

Go straight ahead and down the stairs. Climb down the ladder at the very bottom (it is on the right, beneath the stairs). You’ll now find yourself in the room containing the Faces of the Past riddle.

Defeat the enemy here and then interact with the glowing blue altar behind him to read ‘Pay your respects before the divine statue to reunite with faces of the past’. The emote you should use here is Worship .

Faces of the Past #9: Examine the marks

• Emote Required: Examine
• Reward: Broken Belled Pinwheel

After defeating the Fierce Tiger in Mount Zhenwu, you’ll run into the Storyteller, who asks if you’d like to proceed. Do not proceed just yet and continue past him to reach Ferry Overlook, where you can ride a boat over to Bai Mansion.

Upon arriving at Bai Mansion, you’ll see the next Faces of the Past riddle glowing blue in the courtyard, which reads ‘Examine the marks here to reunite with faces of the past’. Use the Examine emote.

Faces of the Past #10: Pay your respects

• Emote Required: Worship
• Reward: White-Robed Elder’s Armor

The next Faces of the Past Riddle is found in WUCHANG’s optional Tomb area in Mount Zhenwu. If you head forward and take a left – across two bridges made from tree trunks and branches – from the Avian Dwelling Shrine, you will eventually reach the area if you haven’t already.

Initially, the Tomb area is empty. To do what needs to be done here and thus access the next Faces of the Past riddle, you must have been keeping up with the White-Robed Elder’s quest so far (by speaking to him whenever you encounter him). You do not need to summon him for the fight against the Bo Sorcerer to progress his quest; simply talk to him when you find him around the land of Shu.

If you then progress into Bo Capital (this is after visiting the optional Bai Mansion, and after proceeding with the Storyteller), you can fast-travel back to the Tomb to meet the White-Robed Elder here. You must have visited Bo Capital first for this to happen.

A boss fight with the White-Robed Elder – coined Eternal Glory Zhao Yun for this fight – will unfold. Once you manage to defeat him, there’ll be a gravestone in the Tomb area that reads ‘pay your respects at the gravestone and heed the hero’s final will’. Use the Worship emote here, and you’ll receive the White-Robed Elder’s armor set.
