Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time begins, as many RPGs do, by prompting you to customise your character, including choosing their appearance and giving them a name. You don’t need to stress too hard over these decisions, however, as it’s explicitly stated that you can make changes later if you decide something wasn’t to your liking – same goes for the name you choose for your island in the opening scene, too.
It isn’t quickly evident how exactly the game is going to follow through on those promises, however, and in fact you do need to hit some specific pre-requisites before you’re allowed to make changes to your original decisions. Read on for how to change your appearance, edit your character name and island name in Fantasy Life i .
How to change your appearance in Fantasy Life i
When creating your character at the very beginning of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, the game assures you that you’ll be able to edit your appearance later. A few minutes later, when prompted to rename your island if its canon name of “Mysteria” isn’t really doing it for you, you’ll receive similar assurances about changing your island name. However, it’s not immediately obvious when or how to do either of those things.
If for whatever reason you’ve decided that you’re not happy with your initial choices, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that the game wasn’t lying and you can absolutely change every aspect of your character’s appearance, and rename both them and your island, as many times as you like. The bad news is that you’ll have to clear a bit of the story before unlocking these abilities.

Don’t worry, nothing’s set in stone in Fantasy Life i: you just have to complete some pre-requisite quests before you can tweak your initial decisions. |Image credit:VG247 / Level-5
Specifically, you need to reach Chapter 3 and return from your expedition to Warren Willow Hollow, at which point you’ll unlock your player housing Base Camp. In all, it’s going to take around three to four hours of gameplay before you can freely edit your character’s appearance and your initial choice of names, assuming you don’t get too sidetracked along the way.
Once you’ve followed the prompts to complete the base building tutorial steps, you can speak to Boyle at the Guild building (if you haven’t done these yet then don’t worry, Boyle just prompts you to go and finish your quest tasks before coming back to him). Boyle now has four options he can help you with:
- Party Formation
- Islander Management
- Change Appearance
- Change Island Name
You can now access these options at will, and re-enter editing as many times as you like!
