To start, go to Harvestfall Village in the west of Qinghe and speak to the waiter, San Qian, at the local canteen.
He mentions Well of Heaven are recruiting nearby, but asks for a 200 Zhou Coin bribe for the information. That’s an absolute pittance, so fork out and he tells you to seek out a Well of Heaven Elder under an Elm Tree on the main road out of the village.

At this point you’re also handed an update on the comprehension clue to the Art of Resistance Internal Art.
Go and speak to the elder next to the tree, and he asks for another bribe of Zhou Coin.

Although this seems fishy, given the tenant of Heroic Righteousness which is the cornerstone of the Well of Heaven, hand over the coins and the elder gives you a test to prove your worthiness: grab a pile of jewellery from his old friend.
Go to the friend but, against the original elder’s wishes, speak to this second man about the Well of Heaven . He scolds your brashness and asks for Ill-gotten Wealth to prove your commitment.
Ill-gotten wealth is things like artwork, silver, jewels, pottery and wine. They can be found at Black Market Dealers who’re marked on your map, or from generally dishonest merchants across the world (more on this below). Use your Wind Sense (press in the Right Stick) to highlight the Ill-gotten gains before taking them.

This is where your choices diverge. Given the differences in demeanour of the two supposed masters you can discern that the second man is the true master of the Well of Heaven, while the first is an imposter.
You can now either complete the task for the true master to join the Well of Heaven, or let yourself be deceived and continue on your original quest. This allows you to join the legendary tricksters known as the Nine Mortal Ways Sect.
Choosing to stick with the Well of Heaven will net you the Thundercry Blade Martial Art while also aligning your character with a “good” Sect, whereas the Nine Mortal Ways are more morally dubious.
Where to find Ill-gotten Wealth in Where Winds Meet
If you’re stuck for where to find dishonest merchants, the easiest place to get Ill-gotten Wealth is back at General’s Shrine in Qinghe , where you went with Ruby right at the start of the game.
If you remember, the merchant Jin tried to swindle you and other travellers at the tournament, and you can find Ill-gotten Wealth nestled in the belongings of his caravan, as shown in the embedded video from Nubt42 below:
