Few weapons in the Monster Hunter Wilds arsenal have as much speed and ferocity as the Dual Blades, which are an unrelenting DPS menace in the right hands.
The Dual Blades are also one of the best weapons for beginners in Monster Hunter because they’re quick and relatively forgiving. You’re less limited with movement speed with the Dual Blades, meaning you can reposition yourself away from harm more easily if you find yourself in a tricky spot. Plus you can stow them more quickly to use items and drink potions.
However, the Dual Blades are a lot more than an early game crutch. With access to a host of handy elements and ailments, the rapid strikes of the Dual Blades also make them a natural fit for applying statuses, which makes them not just useful in a solo, casual setting, but a big benefit to a multiplayer party as well.
So you can learn a bit more about unlocking the power of the Dual Blades, we’ll go through some of the best combos you’ll need to get comfortable with, as well as some main story builds which will start to get you thinking about the Skills which work best for your playstyle. As a meta emerges for the post-game grind, we’ll add more High Rank builds too.
Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Guide
Dual Blades Combos
Using the Dual Blades is relatively simple in Monster Hunter Wilds, the only two things you need to remember are to keep Demon Mode active and your weapon sharp. The Dual Blades’ main weakness is how quickly it loses sharpness, but it makes up for this with a ferocious output.
As for basic moves, your Triangle attacks are usually best for standing in place, while your Circle attacks are better for closing distance.
The flow of combat goes as follows:
- Start Demon Mode by pressing R2
- Build up the sword meter in the top left-hand corner of your screen with repeated Triangle and Circle attacks
- When the meter is full, perform a Blade Dance (Triangle + Circle at the same time)
- Combo this with follow-up Demon Flurry (R2) and Blade Dance (Triangle + Circle) until the meter runs out
- Restart Demon Mode and repeat
- Keep an eye on your weapon sharpness and retreat to use a whetstone when your weapon becomes less effective
Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Builds
While you can get away with paying more attention to fashion than functionality while playing Monster Hunter Wilds’ main story, it never hurts to prepare yourself and think about how tuning your build can take your weapon to a whole new level.
Early Game
In the early game, you need to focus on getting a useful elemental weapon as quickly as possible, which is likely either the fiery Quematrice Blades or the paralyzing Lala Barina pair. The latter of these will get you started with statuses early, which is what you want out of using the Dual Blades.
As for armour, most other weapons want to mainline Quick Sheathe right away, but the Dual Blades already stow quickly enough. Therefore you probably want to grab the Evade Extender parts of the Balahara set, which buff the dodge roll you’ll be using often, as soon as you can.

Mid-game
As you get further into your Monster Hunter Wilds adventure, you can take your Dual Blades build in a couple of different directions. The first one focuses on the Burst Skill from the Ebony Odogaron set, which gives you stat boosts after landing successive hits (playing right into the strengths of the Dual Blades).
Alternatively, you can farm some Rey Dau parts to craft 4 pieces of that armour set which makes use of the Latent Power Skill to boost your Affinity (critical damage) after you take damage, which is a bit of an inevitability when you’re up-close-and-personal with the Dual Blades.
As for a weapon, I like the Ajarakan Twin Edges which apply the Blast element that deals extra explosive damage. If you’re playing the fast and furious Dual Blades, then you obviously want to watch the world burn, and what better way to achieve that than with exploding swords?

Post-game
This particular end-game Dual Blades build revolves around the Frenzy status in Monster Hunter Wilds, and has been put together with ideas from YouTuber, Varsona Vyzelta , as well as our own playtime.
By afflicting ourselves with Frenzy during a fight against a Large Monster, and equipping some specific Skills, this status effect – and ultimately curing it – will see us gain buffs to both our attack and our affinity.
With that in mind, we’re going to equip four pieces – a mixture of Alpha and Beta – from the Gore Magala set of armor. Having four pieces will give us the Gore Magala’s Tyranny Set Bonus Skill, Black Eclipse II, which will inflict us with Frenzy – and provide a flat attack buff – once you start fighting a Large Monster. This particular Bonus Skill is what this build revolves around.
More specifically, we’re equipping the Gore Mail A, Gore Coil A, and Gore Greaves A. Together, these three pieces provide us with Antivirus Level 3, which is very important for Frenzy builds. This skill (at Level 3), greatly increases our recovery rate when contracting Frenzy, and if we’re able to cure it, we get a buff to our affinity. Nice!
These three pieces will also kit us out with Flinch Free Level 2 (prevents knockbacks), Evade Window Level 2 (extended invulnerability when evading), and Constitution Level 2 (reduces stamina depletion when evading or blocking). These are all useful skills to have, especially with a Dual Blades build where you’ll be doing lots of quick evasions.
Our fourth Gore Magala piece is the Gore Helm B. This gives us an additional Evade Window level (bringing the skill up to Level 3), while also providing us with the Coalescence Level 1 Skill, which is very important to this build. Coalescence will increase both our elemental attack power and status effects after recovering from Frenzy (or any other abnormal status effects). To improve the Coalescence Skill further, we ideally want to equip Phoenix Charm II (or the Phoenix Jewel Decoration).
So, as you approach a Large Monster and Frenzy is activated, you receive an attack buff. Then, thanks to Antivirus (and our swift attacks), Frenzy is quickly cleansed, leading us to reap the elemental attack and affinity buffs that this skill and Coalescence will then provide.
Next, we’re going to try and make the most of the Burst Skill with our final piece of armor – the Guardian Ebony Braces A, which provides Burst Level 2 (and Divine Blessing Level 1). Upon consecutively attacking an enemy, this skill provides a boost to both our raw attack and elemental attack, which is too good to miss out on with how quickly you’ll be attacking using the Dual Blades. If you can improve this further using the Chain Jewel Decoration, even better!
Last, but certainly not least, is our weapon of choice. Fortunately, you’ve plenty of incredible options when it comes to the Dual Blades, but to really make the most of this build, be sure to opt for a weapon with an elemental attack or craft an Artian Dual Blade with an elemental infusion of your choice.
Some of the strongest options to consider are the Gravios Conquerors (300 attack, 200 blast), the Inspired Ywain (308 attack, 200 dragon), and the Dual Kut-Ku (308 attack, 250 fire).

- Talisman: Phoenix Charm II (or Chain Charm II)
